Hacked Democratic Congressional Campaign documents released

[WASHINGTON] A computer hacker Friday released e-mails and other documents from the server of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The documents released by someone calling himself Guccifer 2.0 are mostly mundane, including lists of passwords, mobile- phone numbers, e-mail addresses of congressional staff and lists of guests at fund raisers. Reuters previously reported that the FBI is investigating the hack.

It's the latest release of information from cyber attacks - including groups purported to ties to Russia - against Democratic organisations amid the 2016 presidential campaign.

Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign last month as chair of the Democratic National Committee after a firestorm over leaked e-mails posted by WikiLeaks showed committee staff favoured Hillary Clinton and attempted to undermine Senator Bernie Sanders for the party's presidential nomination.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has high confidence the Russian government hacked US Democratic Party groups and the personal e-mails of political operatives, a person familiar with the findings said earlier this week.

The Russian government has dismissed the idea that it was involved in the hack of the Democratic National Committee, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said there's "no proof whatsoever" that Moscow was involved.
