Hagel resigns as US defense secretary, official says

    [WASHINGTON] US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has resigned, a US defense official said on Monday, adding that President Barack Obama had accepted his resignation.

    Mr Hagel will remain in the Pentagon's top post until a successor is named, the official said.
