Hazy conditions possible over next 1-2 days: NEA
SINGAPORE could experience occasional hazy conditions over the next one to two days due to smoke from Sumatra and dry weather conditions, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Thursday.
The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was in the "moderate" range of about 80 to 88 at 2pm on Thursday, the agency said. NEA expected the air quality to move into the low end of the "unhealthy" range - which spans a reading of 101 to 200 - over the next few hours.
The hotspot and haze situation in Sumatra is not expected to change significantly under the current weather conditions for the next few days, NEA added.
Conditions could improve if wind speeds pick up, but could also worsen if the prevailing winds shift to blow from the south or south-west.
NEA chief executive Ronnie Tay wrote to his Indonesian counterpart on Tuesday to register Singapore's concerns and to seek an urgent update on the ground situation, NEA said.
