Heng Swee Keat to resume duties as Minister for Finance: PM Lee
HENG Swee Keat will resume his duties as Minister for Finance, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the National Day Rally on Sunday.
Mr Heng has been recuperating from a stroke that he had suffered in May. He was discharged from hospital on June 25.
Lawrence Wong will be appointed Second Minister to help Mr Heng with his Ministry of Finance duties.
Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will stop covering as Acting Minister.
The prime minister announced this in his speech at the rally which he resumed at 10.40pm on Sunday. The rally was suspended temporarily when he took ill at around 9.15pm.
"(The doctors) think I'm alright, but anyway I'm going to have a full checkup after this," Mr Lee said.
