High Court judge Tan Siong Thye appointed deputy AG

HIGH Court judge Tan Siong Thye has been appointed deputy Attorney-General and will assume his new role at the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) on Feb 2, for a period of three years.

Justice Tan was appointed by the Singapore President, upon the Prime Minister's advice.

In a statement on Monday, the Prime Minister's Office said the judge's career in the Singapore Legal Service is "long and distinguished".

Prior to his appointment as a High Court judge last July, Justice Tan was made a judicial commissioner of the High Court of Singapore in October 2013.

And before that, in 2008, he was a senior district judge at the Subordinate Courts, which was later re-named State Courts.

He was made Chief District Judge in 2010.

Justice Tan started his career in the Legal Service as a deputy public prosecutor in the AGC in 1979.

Between 1986 and 1998, he was a district judge and from 1999 to 2008, he was director of the Commercial Affairs Department.
