IMF urges govts of advanced economies to use fiscal policies to support demand

    A BOLDER and more proactive approach is needed by governments - especially those of advanced nations - toward leaning on fiscal policy as the global economy continues to slow, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in its latest Fiscal Monitor report on Wednesday.

    Governments "must be prepared to respond promptly to support growth and reduce vulnerabilities", it said, just a day after it issued a warning in its World Economic Outlook that global economic growth risked falling to "below stalling speed".
