Indonesia's Q3 current account deficit shrinks, balance of payments shows US$4.6b deficit

[JAKARTA] Indonesia's current account deficit shrank in the third quarter to US$4.0 billion, and the balance of payments shows a deficit of US$4.6 billion, Bank Indonesia said on Friday.

The third quarter current account deficit was equivalent to 1.86 per cent of gross domestic product, improving from 1.95 per cent in the second quarter, the central bank said.

Indonesia posted a US$4.2 billion current account deficit in the second quarter, when it also showed a balance of payments deficit of US$2.93 billion.

The current account is the broadest measure of a country's foreign trade of both goods and services. It is part of the balance of payments, which summarise an economy's transactions with the rest of the world.
