Jakarta moves to tackle tax avoidance by MNCs

Finance minister also says she's committed to raising the country's current 10.3% tax-to-GDP ratio to 16% by 2019

INDONESIA will sharply lift its tax collection and work with other nations to develop new rules to tackle the "aggressive" tax planning by multinational corporations (MNCs), the finance minister said on Wednesday.

An increasing number of companies in the digital space have exploited loopholes in the domestic tax system to minimise their tax liabilities, Sri Mulyani Indrawati said in a speech at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conference in Jakarta.
