JAPANESE Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed on Friday his government will introduce a supplementary budget next month expected to be worth over 3 trillion yen (S$34.4 billion) after news that core consumer prices fell for a third straight month in October as household spending also dropped unexpectedly.

The additional government spending comes at a time of uncertainty over whether the world's third-largest economy has sufficient momentum to climb out of the recession it fell into in the third quarter, and when markets are also pressing for further economic and monetary stimulus.
