SENTIMENT among Japanese manufacturing firms has risen for the first time in a year and a half on the back of a weaker yen, which has boosted prospects for exports and for corporate earnings, the Bank of Japan's latest quarterly "tankan" survey showed on Wednesday.

For the moment, corporate sentiment in Japan is being buoyed largely by the "Trump effect" which has pushed up the value of the dollar against other major currencies and created expectations of stronger growth in the US economy, analysts said.
