Japan's jobless rate rises to 3.1% in May

[TOKYO] Japan's jobless rate rose to 3.1 per cent in May, while the availability of jobs rose for the third straight month to reach the highest since February 1974, data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications showed on Friday.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate compared with the median forecast of 2.8 per cent in a Reuters poll of economists. It stood at 2.8 per cent in April.
The jobs-to-applicants ratio rose to 1.49 from 1.48 in April.
