BANK of Japan governor Haruhiko Kuroda on Tuesday broke ranks with what has been the official Japanese government position up till now of maintaining an arm's length relationship with the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

He also urged Asian leaders to avoid geopolitical conflicts in the region which, he said, are "not good for anyone". His warning came as tensions continued to rise in North-east Asia against a background of intensifying US and Japanese military cooperation against North Korea.
