Lawrence Wong: PM Lee acted in his official capacity over 'deed of gift'

PRIME Minister Lee Hsien Loong was given a "deed of gift" relating to his late father's belongings in his official capacity, said Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong.

The deed of gift concerns the donation and public exhibition of items of the late founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew for a National Heritage Board (NHB) exhibition about Singapore's founding fathers, said Mr Wong in a Facebook post on Friday.

The deed has surfaced as a point of contention in a dispute between his children over the future of his house at 38 Oxley Road.

In the Facebook post, Mr Wong said that as the items were bound for a major exhibition on Singapore's founding fathers, the matter was for deliberation by the government. "It would therefore be normal and in order, that the Prime Minister be kept informed about the contents and presentation of the exhibition," he said.

PM Lee's younger siblings, sister Lee Wei Ling and brother Lee Hsien Yang, have accused their brother of abusing his power to obtain the deed of gift directly from NHB in his private capacity.

Mr Wong had spoken out on this dispute as he was then the minister of Culture, Community and Youth. He will speak more when Parliament convenes on July 3. THE STRAITS TIMES
