Lucien Wong reappointed Attorney-General; Philip Jeyaretnam is SICC president
SINGAPORE’S Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday (Sep 26) announced the reappointment of Lucien Wong as Attorney-General for another 3-year term. Ang Cheng Hock has also been appointed Deputy Attorney-General for a term of 2 years.
Wong’s reappointment comes amid a series of people movements in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the Singapore courts and the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) announced on the same day.
Wong will continue as Singapore’s Attorney-General for a further term of 3 years from Jan 14, 2023 to Jan 13, 2026. He was first appointed Attorney-General in 2017 and is Singapore’s third-longest serving Attorney-General since the country’s independence.
The late Tan Boon Teik and Chan Sek Keong were the longest and second-longest serving predecessors of Wong.
Deputy Attorney-General Lionel Yee has also been reappointed for a further term of 3 years. Like Wong, Yee was appointed Deputy Attorney-General in 2017 and had his term extended in 2020.
Newly appointed Deputy Attorney-General Ang Cheng Hock will serve his term from Oct 1, 2022 onwards. Deputy Attorney-General Hri Kumar Nair will become a High Court Judge with effect from Jan 2, 2023.

Separately, the PMO announced the appointment of Belinda Ang as Justice of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court, effective Nov 1, 2022. Succeeding her as president of the Appellate Division is Woo Bih Li.
At SICC, Philip Jeyaretnam has been appointed president with effect from Jan 2, 2023. He takes over from Quentin Loh, who has been appointed Senior Judge of the Supreme Court alongside Andrew Phang, effective on the same day.
Thomas Frederick Bathurst will also be appointed as an International Judge to the SICC from Oct 1, 2022 to Jan 4, 2024.
Phang, who is Justice of the Court of Appeal, will retire from the post on Dec 15, 2022, after 17 years in the Judiciary. To mark his retirement, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon will convene a valedictory reference – a formal sitting of the full Supreme Court Bench – on Nov 28.
