Malaysia lifts Movement Control Order for Selangor, KL, Johor and Penang
[KUALA LUMPUR] The Malaysian government has decided to lift the Movement Control Order (MCO) and place Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), starting from March 5.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri said on Tuesday that Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah and Sarawak would remain under CMCO,the New Straits Times reported.
"Other states Melaka, Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah, Putrajaya and Labuan, which currently under CMCO, will be placed under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO)."
Both phases of the CMCO and RMCO in the relevant states will begin from March 5 to 18.
Previously, all states in the country except for Sarawak were placed under MCO from Jan 22 to Feb 4 to curb the spread of Covid-19, before it was extended to Feb 18.
The MCO then was extended again in the four states (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang ), while Sabah, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Melaka, Kedah, Labuan and Putrajaya were placed under CMCO and Perlis under the RMCO.
Sarawak was first placed under CMCO from Feb 15 to March 1, before being extended to March 15.
Mr Ismail Sabri also announced that inter-district travel would be permitted from March 5, except for Sabah, while inter-state travel is still not allowed for all states.
