Malaysia Nov factory output up 1.8% y/y, well below forecast
[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia's November industrial production rose 1.8 per cent from a year earlier, its weakest pace in 16 months, as mining production declined, government data showed on Monday.
The figure was well below the median forecast of 4.0 per cent from a Reuters poll of economists.
Output in October was up 4.2 per cent, supported by strength in the manufacturing and electricity sectors.
Malaysia's exports in November rose 6.3 per cent from a year earlier, well below market expectations, due to lower liquefied natural gas exports and a marginal rise in demand for electrical and electronic products.
A private manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) showed factory activity in Malaysia contracted for the ninth straight month in November. The index averaged just 47.7 in the last quarter of 2015, the joint-weakest in the survey's history. REUTERS
