Malaysia Nov inflation rate at 2.6% on year, higher than forecast

[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia's annual inflation rate in November was 2.6 per cent, government data showed on Wednesday.

The change in the consumer price index (CPI) in November from a year earlier was higher than the 2.3 per cent median forecast by economists in a Reuters poll, and slightly above the 2.5 per cent pace in October.

The government said the November rate reflected rises in prices for consumer goods.

The country's inflation rate rose after the government introduced a 6 per cent goods and services tax in April but has been below 3 per cent since August.
