Malaysia reduces power tariffs as global fuel costs decline

MALAYSIA will reduce electricity tariffs next month as a decline in global fuel prices gives the government scope to cut costs for businesses and consumers.
The government will lower prices by 5.8 per cent, or 2.25 sen per kilowatt hour, in Peninsular Malaysia from March 1 to June 30, Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, told reporters in Putrajaya on Wednesday. Tariffs will drop by 3.5 per cent, or 1.2 sen per kilowatt hour, in the eastern state of Sabah and federal territory of Labuan, he said.
