[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia reported 6,075 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the biggest single-day increase since the pandemic began, even after the government imposed nationwide restrictions on movement to curb the spread of the virus.
Selangor, the nation's richest state, contributed the most number of new infections with 2,251 cases, followed by the southern state of Johor at 699 and capital city of Kuala Lumpur at 660, according to Health Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah in a tweet.
Daily cases in Malaysia this month topped 4,000 for the first time since February amid the detection of new variants. The Southeast Asian nation is also struggling with the slow pace of inoculation and less than 3 per cent of the population has been fully vaccinated.
