Malaysia's tourism tax raises questions of implementation

MALAYSIA'S new tourism tax looms in two weeks but how it will be implemented remains uncertain as numerous issues remain unresolved including whether unregistered premises which form the overwhelming bulk of accommodation providers are to be exempt from collecting the levy.

Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) executive director Shaharuddin Saaid said many matters had yet to be addressed despite industry requests for clarification.
