UK premier Theresa May has appointed a tough negotiator as the new European Union (EU) ambassador and is preparing a speech outlining the government's Brexit intentions.
The swift moves follow attacks by several former Mandarin supporters of Ivan Rogers who has resigned as ambassador to Brussels. In a lengthy 1,400 word email Mr Rogers claimed that Downing Street and the Brexit department lacked clarity on how the UK would leave the EU.
