EVEN as some consumers are shelling out for certain festive food items such as Chinese pomfret and red grouper, others are turning to alternatives as fractured supply chains continue to drive up prices of food items.
According to chef consultant Ryan Hong, the prices of some beef brands have gone up by 40-45 per cent in the past 6 months. Traditionally, beef prices will increase either yearly or bi-yearly, and in the single-digit range.
