THE Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZ), located in the Al Wustah region in Central Oman, some 550 km south of the nation's capital Muscat, is slated to be one of the largest free zone projects in the Middle East and North Africa region.
It offers many advantages, with its total area of 1,777 sq km bordered by 80 km of coastline and its strategic location on the Arabian Sea coast. Duqm SEZ is set to become a key hub and gateway not only to Oman, but also to the rest of the Middle East, North and East Africa, and South Asia regions.
The special economic zone is an integrated economic development comprising a sea port, industrial area, new town, fishing harbour, tourist zone, logistics centre and an education and training zone. A road and rail network that will eventually connect Duqm with its neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is being planned.
