Panasonic layoffs do not negate bright outlook in manufacturing: economists
Sector seeing divergence: higher value-added industries flourishing, lower end struggling

PANASONIC'S closure of its refrigeration compressor manufacturing operations in Singapore, affecting 700 workers, does not invalidate the overall positive outlook for the manufacturing sector, said economists.
But it might point to a divergence, they added: between flourishing higher value-added industries and struggling lower value-added ones.
