SINGAPORE'S national water agency PUB is looking to pre-qualify consulting and construction companies in the building of the second phase of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS).

It will call for an exercise on April 8 to pre-qualify consultancies that can provide professional engineering services for the design of the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (TWRP), part of DTSS Phase 2, as well as to supervise its construction and commission.

The TWRP will treat 800,000 cubic metres of used water per day.

A second exercise, to be called on April 29, will be for construction companies to design and build about 50km of sewer tunnels, and their associated shafts and manholes, in the western part of Singapore.

The DTSS uses deep sewer tunnels to carry water using gravity to centralised water reclamation plants in coastal areas. The water is treated and then purified into NEWater.

The second phase of DTSS is expected to be completed by 2025.

Said project director Yong Wei Hin: "We are looking for industry partners with established track records to take us another step closer to the completion of DTSS Phase 2. This is an opportunity for the industry to participate in the delivery of one of the world's most anticipated water infrastructure projects that will ensure Singapore's water sustainability for generations to come."
