Race to be HK's next leader down to 3 contenders
Analysts expect a close race with a predictable outcome - victory for the Beijing-endorsed candidate Carrie Lam
Hong Kong
THREE candidates were left standing on Wednesday as nominations for the position to become Hong Kong's next leader closed, marking the beginning of what analysts say will be a closely-fought, but ultimately predictable, election.
The contenders this time around - former financial secretary John Tsang, former chief secretary Carrie Lam and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing - have comparable lengthy histories in public service, which could make for one of Hong Kong's most competitive races for the chief executive post, said political analyst Chung Kim-wah.
