AFTER a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022 delivered plenty of action – despite heavy rain over the Marina Bay Street Circuit which delayed the race.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez went on to claim victory after a swift overtake on Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at the first corner. Leclerc settled for second, with teammate Carlos Sainz climbing up to third place after pulling ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
Championship favourite Max Verstappen gained a place to finish seventh after he overtook Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel in the final lap. The wet track saw teams struggle to decide on optimal strategies for the race as their drivers struggled for grip. Six drivers, including both cars from Williams and Alpine, crashed out of the race.
The Singapore GP also had a record attendance of 302,000 people over the race weekend, with visitors hailing from all over the world, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Netherlands and the US.
