Review of ElderShield scheme seen as timely

THE proposed review of ElderShield is timely, given that the payouts under this severe-disability insurance scheme hasn't kept pace with medical inflation, industry observers have said.
They were reacting to the announcement by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who said in his National Day Rally speech in Mandarin on Sunday night that the scheme needed improvement, because it does not cover everyone at the moment; moreover, the payouts are made only for six years.
