IN THE first half of 2017, listed companies on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) raised S$7.43 billion through rights issues, warrants and placements - more than 14 times the S$526 million that was raised through initial public offers (IPOs) over the same period.

That secondary issues have dwarfed primary sources so far this year was one of the lesser-known facts highlighted during SGX's first-half equity market update held on Tuesday for the media and conducted by Chew Sutat, the exchange's executive vice-president and head of equities and fixed income.
