Singapore, China-registered vessels collide in Guangzhou; 2 Chinese vessel crew members missing
No injuries are reported among the Singapore vessel’s 23 crew members
[SINGAPORE] A Singapore-registered container ship and a Chinese-registered cargo ship were involved in a collision in the waters off Guangzhou, China on Saturday (Oct 25), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Sunday evening.
The collision took place at about 8 pm, Singapore time.
“It was reported that Hai Li 5 had sunk,” said MPA, referring to the Chinese vessel. “The Chinese authorities are conducting search and rescue operations. MPA has been informed that two of the 15 crew members remain missing.”
The Singapore-registered vessel, Wan Hai A17, remains in stable condition, with no injuries reported among its 23 crew members, according to information from Wan Hai Lines. No pollution was reported.
It is now being held at port, to assist the Chinese authorities in investigations. MPA said it will also carry out its own investigation.
