SINGAPORE does not expect to be a middleman between China and the United States, but what it hopes is to maintain friendships with both powers based on mutual understanding and respect, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Friday.
This is even more pressing at a time when international politics and relations are in a state of flux following the installation of the anti-establishment Donald Trump as US President, and an increasingly confident and assertive China looking to project its political and economic might.
