SINGAPORE is closing its borders to all short-term visitors as it ramps up border control measures to reduce importation of Covid-19 cases in a move that economists said would further squeeze the aviation and tourism industries as well as the broader economy.

From 2359 hours on March 23, all short-term visitors will no longer be allowed to enter or transit through Singapore. Where work pass holders are concerned, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will only allow the entry or return of those providing essential services.
