[MADRID] The Spanish economy grew 0.8 per cent in the first quarter from the previous three months, final official data showed on Thursday, confirming preliminary estimates that growth held steady during a period of political uncertainty.
That was unchanged from growth registered in the October to December period during the run up to a general election on Dec 20 which delivered the most fragmented result in decades.
Spaniards are set to vote again on June 26 after political leaders failed to agree on a coalition to govern.
On an annual basis the economy grew by 3.4 per cent in the first quarter, in line with the preliminary reading and down slightly from the 3.5 per cent recorded in the fourth quarter, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said.
