Spain's retail sales rise for sixth straight month in January
[MADRID] Spanish retail sales rose 4.1 per cent on a calendar-adjusted basis in January, in a further sign of Spain's recovery in domestic demand, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE)on Tuesday.
That followed a 6.3 per cent increase in December, revised down from a previously reported 6.5 per cent rise. That was the strongest growth registered since 2003.
Retail sales have grown for six straight months and nine out of the past 10 months after a three-year period when they mostly fell during a long economic downturn.
