Speculation of policy and trade wars after Trump's Toyota tweet
Tokyo
PRESIDENT-elect Donald Trump's tweeted warning to Japan's Toyota Motor Corporation not to build a new car plant in Mexico to export to the US has sparked speculation of "Trump trade wars". But some say that the incident could instead trigger a policy war within the US administration.
"Washington insiders and lobbyists will now start to work overtime to try and water down the required law changes," former JPMorgan Chase & Co chief financial strategist Jesper Koll, now head of financial firm Wisdom Tree, Japan, told The Business Times at the weekend.
