[TAIPEI] Taiwan's consumer price index for August rose at a slower pace than expected, indicating inflation remains subdued in a sluggish economy.

CPI rose 0.57 per cent in August from a year earlier, while the wholesale price index sank 4.1 per cent, according to data issued by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics on Tuesday.

It was the steepest decline in WPI since it sank 4.21 per cent in April.
