Taiwan ministry says May industrial output could decline y-o-y

[TAIPEI] Taiwan's industrial output could contract in May, worsening from April's slowdown, the economics ministry said on Monday.

In April, industrial output grew just 1.06 per cent from the same period a year earlier, the slowest pace in more than a year.

Last week, the government cut its full year 2015 economic growth target and said exports would contract this year, after shipments fell nearly 12 per cent on year in April, its worst performance in two years.

Taiwan's trade-dependent economy is starting to slow after a bumper year in tech shipments last year driven by demand for the new Apple Inc smartphones.
