Taiwan Oct exports to resume growth, inflation to pick up a bit: poll
[TAIPEI] Taiwan's exports likely rebounded in October on seasonal demand for technology gadgets, after a typhoon caused shipments to unexpectedly drop in the prior month, a Reuters poll showed.
The median forecasts of 12 analysts polled by Reuters was for exports in October to expand 1.8 per cent from a year earlier, the best growth since Jan 2015.
Exports fell 1.8 per cent in September as the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday and Typhoon Megi caused work closures, snapping two months of export growth.
Taiwan is one of Asia's major exporters, especially of technology goods, and its export trend is a key gauge of global demand for technology gadgets worldwide.
Inflation, as measured by Taiwan's consumer price index, in October will likely pick up to 0.5 per cent from a year earlier, the poll showed. The CPI rose 0.3 per cent in September.
