Tap potential of older workers, say MPs

OLDER workers can play important economic roles, be it in sharing their knowledge as mentors or by re-training for jobs in sectors such as early childhood education, said Members of Parliament on the second day of the Budget debate on Wednesday.

In their current firms, senior workers are a valuable source of knowledge and experience, said Jessica Tan (East Coast GRC) and Intan Azura Mokhtar (Ang Mo Kio GRC). Firms could thus deploy such workers as in-house mentors or trainers instead of engaging external vendors, who would not have the same understanding of the organisation, said Dr Intan.
