SETTLEMENT of a territorial dispute that has restricted economic cooperation between Japan and Russia since World War II appeared to move a step closer to resolution on Friday when Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russia President Vladimir Putin held talks in the Russian Far East port city of Vladivostok.
The Japanese leader was reported as saying at the end of his talks with Mr Putin on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum that "regarding a peace treaty, the two of us had quite an in-depth discussion".
