Tharman appointed next G-30 chairman

SINGAPORE'S Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam has been appointed the next chairman of the Group of 30 (G-30). Mr Tharman succeeds Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank, who will complete his five-year term as G-30 chairman at the end of this year.

The G-30 also announced on Wednesday the reappointment of Jacob Frenkel, chairman of JP Morgan Chase International and former governor of the Bank of Israel, as chairman of the G-30 board of trustees.
