SINGAPORE'S Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) will spend a further S$25 million on the traditional arts in the next five years, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and MCCY Sam Tan told Parliament on Thursday.
This follows the S$23 million, five-year National Traditional Arts Plan launched in 2010 by the National Arts Council.
MCCY will also develop the Stamford Arts Centre in Waterloo Street into a centre with a focus on the traditional arts, Mr Tan said.
Further, more funding will be available for the conservation of Singapore's heritage. MCCY is providing a S$12m top-up to the National Monuments Fund, and setting up a Heritage Research Grant.
