UK Brexit bill set to grow as EU liabilities swell
Higher pension costs will increase what the EU thinks the UK should pay, and risk enraging parts of the British govt
London
THE Brexit bill may have just gotten even bigger.
As UK and European Union (EU) officials haggle over the size of Britain's divorce settlement, documents show that the EU's liabilities grew by almost 4 per cent in 2016, with the cost of pensions for EU officials rising more than 5 per cent. Higher pension costs - already a controversial part of the bill - will increase what the EU thinks the UK should pay, and risk enraging parts of the UK government.
