Unemployment rate in Hong Kong during August-October rises to 2.9%
HONG Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up to 2.9 per cent in the August-October period, the government said on Thursday (Nov 16).
The government said the unemployment rates of the various sectors stayed low in general with inbound tourism and local consumption continuing to underpin economic growth in the near term.
In the July-September period, the unemployment rate was at 2.8 per cent, when it was unchanged with the previous three months period.
“The labour market should remain tight in the coming months despite some possible negative effects stemming from the difficult external environment,” Chris Sun, secretary for labour and welfare, said in a statement. REUTERS
