US consumer confidence unexpectedly rises to four-month high

    [WASHINGTON] US consumer confidence unexpectedly rose in July to a four-month high as Americans had sunnier views on both the current situation and outlook, data from the New York-based Conference Board showed Tuesday.

    The research group's confidence index increased to 121.1 following a 117.3 June reading. The median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was for a decline to 116.5.
