AN election-watch party held at the Conrad Centennial hotel for some 800 members of Singapore's American community had started off on a high note on Wednesday morning.
Over coffee, doughnuts and apple pie, they stood in groups, their eyes transfixed to the TV screens in the ballroom, as the results of the US presidential election began to trickle in.
