Visitor arrivals to Singapore up 14%, tourism receipts rise 2% in Q1

VISITOR arrivals to Singapore rose 14 per cent year on year to 4.1 million in the first quarter of this year, while tourism receipts grew at a slower 2 per cent to S$5.4 billion.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said in an update that the top visitor generating market in the first quarter was China, while Indonesia was second and Malaysia third.

While receipts from shopping, accommodation and food & beverage grew, those from sightseeing, entertainment & gaming declined, the STB said.

Gazetted hotel room revenue was estimated at S$0.8 billion for Q1 2016, a growth of 4.6 per cent year-on-year. Revenue per available room (RevPar) declined by 2.3 per cent year-on-year as average room rate (ARR) softened, even though average occupancy rate (AOR) increased.
