THE identity of the next American president hangs in the balance and, with it, the bull market in stocks.

US stocks look set for a volatile few days, with no clear winner emerging in Tuesday's presidential election. Both the Republican incumbent Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden still stand a chance of victory as thousands of ballots were still being counted at press time in Singapore.

Mr Trump's indignant claims that he was the victim of fraud, meanwhile, raised fears about a contested election.
