Scandal-hit UK business lobby plans job cuts

Britain’s biggest business lobby group on Friday (Jun 2) confirmed plans to cut jobs after allegations of sexual harassment triggered an exodus of members.

The EGM will hold a vote on a resolution which calls on remaining members to put their confidence in CBI proposals to reform its “governance, culture, and purpose”.

Britain’s biggest business lobby group on Wednesday (May 31) pledged a significant shakeup following allegations of sexual harassment by staff that could reportedly cause it to fold.

Tesco said John Allan “strongly denies” an allegation that he touched a senior female Tesco employee’s bottom at a group annual shareholder meeting in 2022.

Tesco chairman accused of inappropriate behaviour

The Guardian newspaper reported on Tuesday (May 9) that John Allan, the chairman of Britain’s biggest retailer Tesco, was facing claims of inappropriate behaviour from four women.

The CBI, which says it represents 190,000 businesses including many of Britain’s biggest companies, could face a battle for survival as the number of companies cutting ties with it grows.
