COMPANIES here can do more to help the needy and underprivileged, Social and Family Development Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said on Wednesday.

The help could be as simple as initiating outreach programmes to befriend the underprivileged, he said, citing a scenario where "help is available on many fronts, but oftentimes, when we meet people who need the help, we always wonder why it is so reactive". "Why do we clean up flats only when they are already in abject conditions? There are indicators that should have been surfaced earlier, and corporations can help to do that," Mr Tan said.
